One is a space shooter, the other is a space trader with some shooting added on. there are an equal amount (potentially) who've played FL and uninstalled X3 or X2 because they didn't find it challenging - or more likely, just too damned slow. For every person here who thinks X3 is better because they played FL storyline and uninstalled. I've played FL more than I've played X2 or X3. The only real glitch imo is the complete lack of a tutorial.Īye, the only people who try to compare are fans of one individually. X is a very complex game (and it becomes insane in late levels) it needs a good interface, the current interface gets the job done but it could be (far) better. I play in a Pentium 4 at 3 GhZ, with 2 Gb of DDR ram (played well enough in 1 too) i only have slowdowns in major PPC exchanges, thats hardly state of the art when the game was released. I agree that the AI is not the brightest out there but its not terrible, when you reach the top combat ranks you will find the true strength of X A.I (getting your ass kicked by some pirates is not fun when you are X-treme in a LX) Literally after 1 year of playing this game i am STILL learning and i like it.įreelancer is a simple game, with a good tutorial that shows you what you need to know.īut this simplicity makes the game too repetitive, only the multi aspect can buy freelancer some more time but thats it. You can literally play the entire game without the need for combat, just by being a humble merchant and growing to an economic tycoon, all of which in a constantly changing universe, that provides a bigger challenge than most Tycoon games out there.įreelancer:As already stated the economy and the universe is static (and only one ship) it simply does not have the depth to compete in this level.Īlthough the steep learning curve turns some people off, some others prefer something (reasonably) complex in order to keep their attention. X: Economic expansion domination. The X series is more than just a space sim, in my opinion it combines (some successful, others with less success) multiple genres, one of which its an economic tycoon aspect (yes TYCOON is a good word to describe it). I believe that X is a better game that freelancer.Ĭomparing Vanilla vs Vanilla we also have: If I've missed anything out please don't hesitate to say so. I tried my best not to be biased in this ruling so I hope i do not merit comments as an EvE bot would if advertising in the WoW forum. However mods can re-create the X3 Dynamic Universe within Freelancer and give the player rudimentry control over fleets. X3 being huge and hard to operate with Freelancer being smooth but with a static universe. So from this as far as I can see Freelancer is actually almost on level with X3. X3 OU: Almost 0% chance of getting multiplayer.įreelancer OU: Very easy multiplayer, huge number of servers with solid and friendly communities, small number of servers with bad communities as well. Patchs are an absolute must, many patchs.įreelancer Bugs: Almost zero bugs, single patch required for personal server running. Mods allow control of systems and A.I escorts, possible but hard. X3 Control: No limit to the size of your fleet.įreelancer Control: Impossible to control more then one ship in vanilla. Gigantic total conversions and even Dynamic Universe mods. Good design, pity its such a bugger installing them.įreelancer Mods: Thousands of well-designed mods, very easy to instal and change between. X3 Mods: Large selection of scripts and mods. X3 Dynamics: Powerful GOD Engine adds huge replay value.įreelancer Dynamics: Few scripts. X3 Systems: Large nebulas, hidden jump-gates, varied sector layouts.įreelancer Systems: Huge systems, well designed secrets and an incredibly diverse universe. X3 Ships: Huge and varied selection, very good balancing, still trace elements of rack/paper/scissors in OOS combat.įreelancer Ships: Large selection, level based. FPS rate drops on all but the best current machines.įreelancer Stats: Minimal CPU useage, vanilla is non-dynamic. X3 Stats: Very large ammount of CPU power needed. Variable and easily programmed A.I, good basic turorial. X3 Piloting/AI: Large learning curve, no Tutorial, A.I are dreadful.įreelancer Interface: Small learning curve. Very hard to work in large fights without practice.įreelancer Interface: Extremely simple mouse-driven menu. X3 Interface: Clunky, large learning curve. Just reviewing both games and it comes to mind that Freelancer is actually a much closer contender to X then previously thought.
